Text Santa Gift Cards

Text SantaApart from the few ‘Bah Humbug’ people out there, most of us like receiving exciting wrapped-up prezzies for Christmas and Gift Vouchers are also great for spending in the post-Xmas Sales. If you are going to buy Gift Cards for anyone this Christmas then it’s well worth getting the Post Office special Text Santa Gift Cards.

Not only would you be buying a great Christmas present but you’ll also be doing your bit for charity. One4all has launched its briliant ‘Text Santa Gift Card’ to support ITV’s Text Santa Charity Appeal and 2% of the money you load onto the Gift Card will go straight to the charity.

You can buy the ‘Text Santa Gift Card’ in Post Offices and at one4all.co.uk. And the good news is that for every Text Santa gift card that is sold, 2 per cent of the amount of money loaded on to the card will be given to the ‘Text Santa’ appeal! Yay!

Paddy McGuiness and Christine Bleakley‘Text Santa’ is publicised by a national television appeal that culminates in an ITV 1 show beginning on 21st December. Christine Bleakley is going to be presenting the Text Santa show with Paddy McGuiness on ITV 1 on December 21st and she said: “I can’t wait for the nation to get behind Text Santa and raise money for good causes. The Text Santa Gift Card is yet another way the great British public can get behind the initiative and raise money for charity. Now you can do your Christmas shopping knowing that you’ll also be donating to charity at the same time.”

By the way, the Text Santa Gift Cards can be spent in over 17,000 retail outlets so it’s not like you’re limiting whoever you give the cards to, to spending in one chain.

The 6 charities the ‘Text Santa’ appeal are supporting this year are: Age UK, Anthony Nolan – Be a Match, Carers UK – The Voice of Carers, Marie Curie – Cancer Care, Together for Short Lives and Whizz Kids – Move a Life Forward.

Charities have been really struggling since the economic downturn so hopefully the ‘Text Santa’ appeal will help charities to generate a bit of extra money over the Christmas holiday period. Gift Cards always make for a good present so why not buy the Post Office Text Santa Gift Cards. and do your bit for charity at the same time!

Baylis & Harding Products

Baylis & Harding Wild Rose & Raspberry LeafI really love Baylis & Harding stuff!

It’s one of those brands which somehow manage to make their products & packaging look and feel like a luxury brand for supermarket prices. And we’re not talking Waitrose here either!

I remember raving about the Baylis & Harding Coconut & Lime Hand Lotion last year and as I write my downstairs loo is host to the Baylis & Harding French Lavender Hand Wash and Hand Cream too. Each of them only costs a couple of pounds each but you’d never know!

A Few Christmas Gift Ideas

A few Christmas gift ideas which won’t break the bank……

Hope & Glory CandleHeyland & Whittle Hope & Glory Candle is absolutely gorgeous.  It’s made from natural soy so it burns much more evenly. Not only does it smell nicer than virtually any candle I’ve ever had but it looks really luxurious and expensive too. A fab pressie for just about any woman.

Thorntons is always a good stand-by for gifts for any occasions. With Thorntons you can kind of always be assured that you’ll find something to suit everyone. Am loving these mouth-Thorntons Chocolate Cupcakes Boxwateringly scrumptious Chocolate Cupcakes. They are only £4.99 for nine beautifully made cupcake chocolates, including Ravishing Raspberry and Velvety Vanilla! Paulo the Penguin is a real cutie too. He’s a cuddly penguin toy full of milk chocolate penguins. A perfect stocking filler

Organic chocolate makers Green & Black’s have plenty of gifts for the more discerning chocolate lover. Their range has something for every taste and budget and is perfect for those difficult-to-buy-for people we all know.

Green & Blacks TASTING COLLECTIONThe new Tasting Collection is a favourite of mine. The kit contains a mix of twelve miniature bars of Green & Black’s signature flavours, as well as tasting note cards featuring interesting fact, recipe suggestions and flavour combination ideas.

Wilkinsons.com is useful for Christmas on a Budget and I swear I really had no idea that they sold so much. I thought it was a bit of a 99p type of place and was surprised by the range of goods they sell!

Love the colour of this deep purple Sparkle Ceramic Styler! The tourmaline ceramic straightener has quite a big 19mm wide plate with rounded edges so it’s very versatile & perfect for creating straight styles as well as curves and sleek curls. It heats up to 230° for instant results and comes with a style guide toSparkle Ceramic Styler give you the know-how to create some very glamorous styles. It’s a fantastic pressie for fans of certain vampire movies as it’s from the ‘Twilight’ Limited Edition Collection or for that matter anyone who uses straghteners.

Looking for gifts under a fiver for young women? I’m loving Tweezers With Attitude. They’re high performance stainless-steel tip tweezers with fab images emblazoned on them and have a real ‘I want one…’ vibe to them! They’re available from Sally Salon Services

Surprisingly Nandos have come up with some good gifts too…. the chilli sizzler Nandos Chilli Sizzlergift pack for around £15 is a particular favourite of mine and includes a cast iron sizzler, basting brush and Sweet & Sticky marinade to create your own mouth-watering chilli and chicken dishes. A nice little pressie for an awkward-to-buy-for bloke!

I’m fairly sure I’ll be back with a few more Xmas pressie ideas soon……

A Few More Christmas Ideas

Ok, so if you’re a man thinking what to buy for the lady in your life, then there’s always a pen. And before you say anything – no it’s not boring at all. EVERYONE uses pens so you can’t go wrong if you buy a nice one. Buying useful things is wrong if you’re talking about an iron or a blender but not when it comes to pretty things which just happen to be useful too.

There’s a site called NotYourAveragePen.com which has loads of pens which are a little bit different. I particularly like the Crystal Inspiration Romance Fountain Pen in Wild Rose. (I suppose you could call it, the ultimate handbag accessory – but not in ‘a Paris Hilton absurdly small pooch in a massive Mulberry’ kind of way.) The pen is embellished with sparkling Swarovski crystals and comes in a beautiful leather case. You can even personalise it, if you so wish! Put it this way, I’m a woman, I love Christmas, I love surprises and would love one of these pens.

I know it’s not good to use teen-speak words like ‘cool’ when you’re past a certain age and actually have teenage children yourself but it would be pretty difficult to describe the new game Mindflex without using the word ‘cool’.

Mindflex from Mattel

Who’d have thought that one day the dream of moving an object with the power of your mind would become a reality? The new game from Mattel really has revolutionised game-play by putting the power of movement in players’ minds. Mindflex uses technology that works like a simple EED monitor and the sensors in the player’s headset measures brainwave activity. Sounds like sci-fi doesn’t it? But it’s not – it really works. It’s not cheap at £80 but it’s a game a family with older children could play and enjoy as well as groups of blokes together, girly nights-in, a game to play with any group in fact even the in-laws!  Here’s a review I found. What can I say? Mindflex really is ‘cool’ and would make a fantastic pressie for just about anyone.

If you’re looking to get some champagne in this Christmas and New Year then try Aldi. Yup, really – ALDI. Their Carlin Cru Champagne is only £14.99 but tastes as good as any of the other leading brands. While you’re there, pick up some of their chocolate reindeers too. They look as good as the famous Lindt bunny and, according to Mr. C and the kids, taste as good too!

Aldi is one of those supermarkets that many of us turned their noses up once at once upon a time. But I swear once you’ve been there once, you will go there again and again. It’s so unbelievably cheap and contrary to popular belief, it’s not only stocked with bargain-basement stuff. As sure as ‘eggs is eggs’, Aldi will save you money this Christmas!

A Few Random Xmas Gift Ideas

Thought I’d share a couple of ideas for Christmas pressies with you……

New to me is the classic game PERUDO – a classic Peruvian dice game which will make liars of everyone!  Apparently Stephen Fry has called this game the second most addictive thing to come out of South America! Perudo is a brilliant after dinner party game, a drinking game for adults, or just good clean fun for all the family.
Don't Say It
DON’T SAY IT! is a game which families everywhere will love too. It’s a game for two or more teams of players aged 6+ years where a slip of the tongue can lose the game!  Players pit their wits against an electronic timer to get their team to guess a word without being able to say any of the associated words.  e.g. Can you get your team to say ‘pig’ without saying ‘sausage’ ‘bacon’ or ‘sty’? You can buy both games from www.paul-lamond.com.

New Scrabble Trickster introduces a new dimension to the perennially popular word game. Just like Scrabble Original you combine letters on your rack to score points by connecting them to words on the board. But with the Trickster version if you  play your word across a Trick square you have carte blanche to break a rule. You might want to use a Proper Noun or spell a word backwards.Who knows but playing this version, the world is your lobster!

The Hotel Chocolat Ultimate Advent Calendar and their Christmas Wreath are worth a look as is most of the stuff in this delectably delicious shop. Hotel Chocolat online is useful but if you live near a shop just go in and breath in deeply a few times. You’ll get a few odd looks but it is so worth it. The shop smells so edible. My personal favourite is the Liquid Chocolate Aztec Chilli flavour – it makes the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted.

If you have any babies or toddlers to buy for this year, then you can’t go far wrong with the Soft Miffy Playhouse . Miffy bits and bobs abound at MiffyShop.co.uk and you’ll be bound to find something for the Under Fives in your family there.

Easy-peasy things to buy….. in brief:
Pantone bits and bobs – stylish, simple and impossible not to like. I love the mugs.
Anything from Green & Blacks, Godiva or Hotel Chocolat – It’s chocolate! What’s not to like?
Baylis and Harding – their coconut & lime hand lotion is the best ever
Spa vouchers – most ladies like a facial, a massage or a manicure
Radox Christmas Gift Sets – middle of the road perhaps but everyone likes a nice-scented bath

Cafepress.co.uk, John Lewis,  TheTravellingSouk.com, BaylisandHarding.com, ThePenShop.co.uk, NotYourAveragePen.com and OxfamUnwrapped.com are some of the sites well worth taking a look at.
