Vistaprint iPhone Case

Vistaprint iPhone CaseJust thought I’d show you the really fun looking iPhone cases which my daughter and her boyfriend ordered recently from Vistaprint.

Apparently it was dead easy to do and although originally they were both going to put a holiday pic from Turkey on their phones, they decided against it. Maddie just went to Google and searched for random pretty patterns and Hey Presto!! I like Maddie’s case as it really seems to compliment the white iPhone that she has.

The whole procedure from going onto the website to uploading all the necessary pics to create the personalised Vistaprint iPhone Case etc, took no time at all and the site was fairly easy to navigate. I think they were both a bit disappointed TheThumbsUp to IdealCases.co.ukby the fact that the image doesn’t wrap around the phone like my personalised iPhone Case though.

Once they’d ordered the cases, they took a couple of weeks to arrive. Poor Lee (Maddie’s boyfriend) actually managed to drop his new iPhone a couple of days before the case arrived. Pretty bad timing!

I’m not so keen on the design of Lee’s iPhone case. What do you think?

My Freya Prize from Leia Lingerie and JuliaStyleMe

Freya Bra BeauA little while back I entered a competition to Win a Matching Set of Freya bra & knickers from Leia Lingerie on the JuliaStyleMe blog . No sooner had I entered than I promptly forgot all about it so was thrilled to get an email out of the blue sayng that I’d won!! Yay!!

Anyway, last week I went along to my local Leia Lingerie shop in Cardiff where I spent a little while narrowing down my choices from the Freya collection before being measured by a lovely lady called Sarah to check I was wearing the correct size bra. It turns out that I was and off she went to see if my choices were available in my sizes. Amazingly everything I wanted to try on plus a few others were available. (How often does that happen in the likes of M&S?!)

Freya knickers beauThirty minutes or so later, I was the proud owner of an absolutely gorgeous and very spring-like set of matching Freya undies.

In case you’re interested the set is called Beau and although it describes the colour as red online, I would say that the little bow pattern is very definitely pinky not red!

I love my Freya prize from Leia Lingerie and JuliaStyleMe! Do you?

What to Wear on Ladies Day

woman wearing a hatA day at the races can be pretty exciting anyway but on Ladies’ Day, the horse racing takes second place to the fab fashions of the day! When it comes to dressing for Ladies’ Day you may want to go for the latest fashions but remember that there are certain guidelines for appropriate dress so it’s best not to go too overboard with the neon look or wear too many studded items! Yes you can dress ‘on trend’ but be subtle about it!

Natural Beauty

At the various awards ceremonies this year, make up was simple and natural for the most part and this is key for this year. Make up shouldn’t be too over the top and often simply maximising your best assets can be the best look of all. A small amount of smoky eyeshadow, a touch of eye liner and a dash of warm lipstick in a shade that suits you can ooze sophistication and looks effortless too.

Dressing for the Occasion

When it comes to deciding what to wear, places like Royal Ascot usually have a particular dress code and it is important, when choosing your outfit, to take a look at any guidelines to prevent embarrassment on the day.  For example, strapless dresses are often not allowed even under a shrug and you should definitely not be exposing your midriff to show off your latest tattoo! Just make sure you do you a bit of research before going clothes shopping for the ‘big day’.

Spring/Summer trends this year are a mix of pastels, monochrome, neon and nautical. While neon may be a difficult look to pull off successfully at Ladies’ Day, you could always add a splash of colour to your nails to keep the look but in a subtle way.

What Shall I Wear?

Monochrome is almost always a good look.  The runways were full of black & white stripes this year and a simple mix of black and white with a matching hat or hair accessories is usually a winner. Fascinators and certain types of  hats aren’t  permitted in some locations so it’s best to do your research before you head off to any Ladies’ Day.

To play it safe, don’t go for short skirts. Micro-minis are definitely not on and to be honest it’s best to choose a skirt length of just above the knee or longer.

Relax and Enjoy the Day!

Most importantly though, choose a look that you feel comfortable with and don’t forget your brolly! Much as we’d all like it to be sunny everytime we dress up to go out for special occasions, British weather is never predictable. Ladies’ Day takes place at many racing courses around the country and whether you are spending it at Ascot or Kempton, you’re sure to have the time of your life whatever the weather.

Personalised Phone Cases

TheThumbsUp to IdealCases.co.ukOne of my daughters recently showed me a phone case she’d created and I thought I’d have a go at making my own personalised phone case too. Hers has lovey-dovey pics of her and her boyfriend but I didn’t want to go down that route.

Basically I went straight to the same site as her (IdealCases.co.uk) and got started. I had an idea of what I wanted beforehand which helped as there were quite a few options when it came to designs. It was so simple to do though and the IdealCases site was dead easy to navigate. The whole thing quite literally took a few minutes and a few steps:The Thumbs Up to my personalised phone case from IdealCases

  • Choose Your Device
  • Create Your Own Design
  • They Print & Send
  • You Have a New Cover in a Few Days!

I had an HTC phone a while back which I smashed the screen on so I knew I wanted a case that kind of sat slightly proud of my phone. I have an iPhone and there were 6 different types of cases to choose from. I went for the Full Wrap Print With Gloss Finish. This particular case offers high scratch protection to the edges and back of the iPhone & medium drop protection too. I chose a bright, snazzy print from one of their options – and yes that really is my phone at the top!!

I ordered the case on Tuesday and I received it on the Thursday. Pretty good going eh?! And guess what? I LOVE IT!!!

Ideal Cases definitely get The Thumbs Up from me.

A Unique Piece of Jewellery & A Fab Birthday Gift

Boulder Opal PendantWhere to start when you’re looking for original birthday gifts? Google and a zillion sites pop up – the vast majority of which are anything but full of original, unique presents.

I had kind of come to the end of my tether when I happened upon Mi Jewellery. The site looks nothing special until you start clicking around and realise that it’s possible to buy an entirely original piece of hand-crafted jewellery for less than most of the high street chains charge for their bog-standard items.

It was my daughter’s Maddie’s 21st & I’d already bought a few bits & bobs like some champagne glasses and one of those ridiculously expensive Thomas Sabo Seahorse Necklacecharms to go on the bracelet she had for her 18th. When I saw this Sea Horse Pendant , I just thought how nice it would be for her to have something none of her friends would be likely to have. It’s a nice quirky design as you can see in the pic and I’m fairly sure she’ll have lots of people asking her where she got it.

Monica, who runs Mi Jewellery, designs and creates one-off unique pieces of jewellery and all her contemporary designs are handmade using sterling silver, precious and semi precious gemstones. It says on her website that she also does commissions so if you want something really special as well as affordable and completely original, then you can stop looking now!

Tula Bags

Tula Originals Nappa Medium Across Body HandbagI’m not usually a Bag Lady (so to speak) but I saw a really cute bag in John Lewis today and I suddenly ‘got’ the whole women & their handbags thing.

My own collection of bags seems paltry compared to all the other women I know but that might well change.

To be honest I’d never heard of Tula Bags until today although I am familiar with their big sister Radley. Tula bags look to be of a similar high quality so will last for aeons but at the same time they are not so expensive that you need to work overtime for 3 months to cover the cost! In fact you can get a Tula from as little as £39 – pretty reasonable hey?

Pink Ostrich TulaI got back home after my morning in town and had a quick nosey at the various Tulas I could find online and there are absolutely loads of them – all different styles to suit most tastes and ages. There are plenty of on-trend, block, bright colours like the emerald green and the fuchsia berry ones here and as ever buying a bag in one of these shades will update your wardrobe in an instance!

tan-Tula-duffelBut if classic neutral’s more your bag, then there are lots of Tula bags in varying shades of cream/beige/taupe/tan etc. too. I really like this Duffle Bag on the right – not a bit like the one I had to go on school trips in primary school fortunately!

And do you know what in this Jubilee-Olympics year, it’s flipping good to see that classic British craftsmanship is still alive & kicking!

Next Womens Shoes

Next Black Platform Court ShoesI’ve been wanting a pair of nude platform high heels for a while now and it was just my luck to choose a pair from the Next site recently which were out of stock.

I spent absolutely ages trying to decide which ones to go for only to find out right at the checkout that they were no longer available. It was so annoying. Having said that they were so lovely and really reasonably priced too so it was hardly surprising this late in the season that they had all been bought up by bargain-hungry fashionistas.

The shoes I eventually ended up ordering were these gorgeous black snake platform courts and I was thrilled to find them available in extra wide which means no more blisters from squeezing my feet into way too narrow shoes.

The Next site is a little bit confusing to navigate, it’s got to be said, but it’s worth getting the hang of it as there are bargains a-plenty to be had there. Shoes aren’t easy to buy online as the sizing doesn’t seem to be very consistent when you go from site to site. Next is genuinely about as good as it gets when it comes to womens shoes and I for one will be looking there next time I don’t fancy trekking into town shoe-shopping.

Tees & Hoodies from Tekkers and Hot Tuna

Hot Tuna Purple TeeIconic Aussie label Hot Tuna has arrived in the UK with a bang and fans can now see and buy the coveted AW11 range from www.hot-tuna.com .

Elle Macpherson loves the bang-on-trend brand so much that apparently she joined the the Board of Hot Tuna as an executive director (And she hasn’t even got any teenage children yet!)! Other celebrity fans of the brand include Vanessa (High School Musical) Hudgens, Lily Allen, Hot Tuna Man's TeeLindsay Lohan (Is that really a good endorsement??), Chris Martin and The Saturdays! So if you or more likely your sprogs are into the surfer look, if you’re a skateboarder or just someone who appreciates cool-looking urban prints and high quality Ts then the chances are you’ll love Hot Tuna.

Looking for clothes to buy the boys in the family (17 and 21) for Christmas,  I happened upon Tekkers. Now as Tekkers was a brand I hadn’t actually come across before, I obviously had to do a bit of research and find out what on earth tekkers meant!  Where better than the Urban Dictionary ? It’s a sport’s brand so the clue was probably there already but, me being me,  I just didn’t ‘get’ it. Tekkers HoodieAnyway I love the fact I now know that ‘tekkers’ basically means technique, particularly when it comes to football although definition 2 in the link above was mighty interesting too!

Tekkers was founded by Wayne Rooney’s Sky One ‘Street Striker’ co-presenter and former soccer star, Andy Ansah. Andy is deemed to have come up with the word in the first place when describing footballers as having “Unbelievable Tekkers”. Tekkers is yet another of the clothing brands which is popular with ‘famous’ ladies including X Factor’s Tulisa Contostavlos, Angellica Bell and Sarah Cawood although it’s the brand’s association with  sporting legends like Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo, Ashley Cole and Rory McIlroy which makes it so popular with blokes. You can see Tekkers’ high quality hoodies, vests and tees here at www.tekkers.co.uk

Comvita Nourishing Hand & Nail Cream

Comvita Nourishing Hand CreamHand Cream is a difficult one to get right isn’t it? So many of them are too heavy, too sticky or too thick. A few years ago Santa put some Handy Gurugu from Lush in my Christmas Stocking. Boy does that take a long time to rub in and it stinks too – a kind of herbal ‘old-lady’ soap kind of smell. Some ladies out there in Cyberspace call it a ‘fresh, clean smell’ and if Toilet Duck is your idea of clean, I suppose I could agree with them.

I’ve been using the Nourishing Hand & Nail Cream by Comvita® this past week or so and I’ve got to say it’s not bad at all. You sort of get that honey scent like with all the other Comvita Moisturisers  I’ve tried . That’ll be something to do with the HUNI®XA Manuka Honey it contains. Now it’s claimed that this magic ingredient helps slow down the signs of ageing so hopefully the backs of my hands won’t end up looking like Madonna’s ‘papped’ hands in the Maily Dail. The Comvita hand cream sinks in nicely and you don’t have to rub and rub forever and a day. This is a real decider for me as there’s nothing more annoying than putting hand cream on, in the middle of the day, sitting at your desk, only to find you can’t actually touch your keyboard for another 15 minutes as your hands are so sticky. Actually come to think of it, there are way more annoying things and that flipping, fat, opera-singing bloke from one of those endless stream of comparison websites, comes to mind….arghhh! Anyway, I digress, as ever…

My hands feel soft and moisturised after using the Comvita Hand Cream so yes it works there. I have quite brittle nails so perhaps a month of using it will tell me whether it lives up to its other claim to ‘nourish and condition’ my nails.

My favourite hand cream is still The Akin Lavender, Geranium & Jojoba Hand, Nail & Cuticle Cream  . It sinks in quickly but not before doing its job. After using the Akin hand cream, my hands stay soft for ages and as an added bonus they smell nice too. What more can you ask of a hand creams really?
